What is a visual timer?
A visual timer shows the time left as a shape that shrinks, usually a colored pie, instead of as digits. A clock that says 14:32 asks you to work out how much time that is. A pie that is one quarter full shows it, even from across the room.
People who find it hard to feel time passing have what is called time blindness, which is common with ADHD. A classroom has the same problem at a larger scale: thirty people need to read one timer.

Visual timer questions
Is this visual timer free?
Yes. The web timer is free, has no ads, and needs no account. It runs in any modern browser on a computer, tablet, or phone.
How do I set the time?
Tap a length under the pie, or drag around the pie like a knob. One full turn clockwise adds 60 minutes. With a keyboard, focus the pie and use the arrow keys.
What happens when time runs out?
The timer plays three soft tones if sound is on, and then counts the time over. Tap +5 min to keep going, or Reset to start again.
Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?
Yes. The timer keeps the start time, not a count of seconds, so it stays correct in a background tab. If you close the tab and open the same page again, the timer is still running.
Why does a short timer fill the whole pie?
Under 60 minutes, the dial rescales to the length you pick, so a 5-minute timer starts as a full pie. From 60 minutes up, a full pie is 60 minutes, like a classic visual timer.
Why use the app when the web timer is free?
The web timer works while the tab is open. The app adds the lock screen countdown, widgets, alerts when the app is closed, saved presets, and a log of your guess against the real time.
Is there an app?
Yes. Hourpie for iPhone, iPad, and Android is coming soon to the App Store and Google Play. It adds the lock screen countdown, widgets, presets, and a log of how long your tasks take. It will be free, with a one-time $4.99 unlock and no subscription.
