How do I show a timer on a projector?

  1. Open this page on the computer that is connected to the projector or board.
  2. Tap a length, or drag around the pie to set the time.
  3. Press Full screen. The pie and the digits fill the display.
  4. Press Start. To leave full screen, press Exit full screen or the Esc key.

The screen stays awake while the timer runs, in browsers that support it, so the projector does not go dark partway through.

What timer lengths fit classroom activities?

Each length opens with the pie already set.

Why does a visual classroom timer work?

Digits on a board are hard to read from the back row, and younger students may not read a clock yet. A shrinking pie needs no reading. Students can see that half the time is gone without asking.

Start a 5-minute pie when you announce clean-up. Students watch the warning instead of waiting for it.

Classroom mode on your tablet

The Hourpie app turns an iPad or Android tablet into a classroom timer with a full-screen landscape pie and large digits.

The iPhone, iPad, and Android app is coming soon.

Classroom timer questions

Can students at the back of the room read it?

Yes. Projector colors put a bright yellow pie on a black screen, and full screen makes the pie and the digits as large as the display allows. Students can still read the pie when the digits are too small.

Does this classroom timer show ads?

No. This web timer has no ads and needs no sign-up.

Does it play music?

No. The timer is silent while it runs and plays three soft tones when time is up. Turn off "Sound at the end" for a silent timer.

Which devices does it work on?

It works in any modern browser: a laptop connected to a projector, an interactive whiteboard, a Chromebook, or a tablet. Nothing to install.

What if the activity runs long?

Tap +5 min to add time. If you let the timer run out, the pie counts the time over, so you can see how long the activity took.

Can I use it on an iPad without a browser tab?

Yes. The Hourpie app, coming soon to the App Store and Google Play, has a classroom mode: a full-screen, landscape pie with large digits for iPad and Android tablets. Classroom mode is free.
